Hampta pass is a pass which is communicated in between Kullu District and Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh. This is a very beautiful place where you can see the Deo Tibba and Indrasan Peak from very close. And one river is met with the Beas River and another is met on Chenab River near chhatru. This trek is open from May to October, depending on the snow and in the month of September, October the river side is fully covered by different types of small flowers.

In October, 2017 at the time of the Devi Durga puja we made a plan to go on the Hampta Pass trek. We arranged everything for the trek. We need to buy some groceries from Manali. And this is the first time we carry the oven and gas for the trek, so arrangement is better than before any trek. We took a bus from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Manali around 8pm after office.

Day 1: Around 11am we reached Manali, got fresh, finished lunch and brought the groceries. After that around 2pm, renting a car for Jobra around 30 km from Manali took 1:30 hours. We reached Jobra a little bit late, so we decided to stay at Jobra tonight. We took a place near a river in the dense forest for camp. Near camp we bonfire and make our dinner at the fire.

Day 2: As we could not reach chika on the last day, so today we have to trek 3-4 km more than our plan. So we started our trek a little bit early and around 9am we reached Chika. This 2 hour trek was an awesome experience. Very long trees covered the whole area with five friends going without any portar and guide.

We crossed the river near Chika and we were going through the left side of the river. We got a shop at Chika, and after 5km we got another shop around 12:30pm. We asked for lunch, but he denied, and told us that he only had rice, but at his shop we make daal. After finishing our lunch, when we tried to pay for his lunch, he refused to take the money. After lunch again we started our trek and after some time one river crossed our road and met with the main river. So very carefully we crossed the river, it was an awesome experience.

Around 3:30 we reached the Balu ka ghera, where we stayed our 2nd night. The meaning of
Balu ka ghera is covered by sand. The river was wider than other areas with so many big islands, where people stayed at night. Also the range of the area is very big, so many people stay towards Hampta pass, but as we trekked around 10-11km , we stayed at the starting area of the Balu ka ghera.

Day 3: We got a very beautiful sunrise on top of the Indrasan peak. Today we have to overtake Hampta pass so we knew that today is going to be the toughest day of this trek. So we started our trek around 7:30am. This area is a very beautiful place with so many small flowers blooming on the soil without Leaves. Around 11am we were preparing our lunch on the side of the river and after finishing lunch again started trekking.

After some time we climbed a hill but when we crossed it, we saw there was a way to skip the climb. Two friends of our group left us and went with another group to cross the Hampta pass, but the other two friends had some trouble trekking. So I was with them, this was the first trek of one of them. And he was vomiting, so we decided to trek slowly and around 3:30pm we were on the Hampta pass from where we were able to see the Kullu district and Spiti district. And around 5pm we reached the place name is Shea Goru which means the cold street. We finished our camp beside our friend’s camp and it was too cold.

Day 4: Last night we slept early, so we woke up early in the morning, but it was too cold, and understand why the name is like this. Finished our breakfast and packed the tent and bag. Our plan was to visit Chandratal Trek, all friends told me they want to go back today. There was a bus going to Manali coming around 10am, so we started our trek. Nearly 4km we have to trek today and first we have to cross the river which is much wider than previous one and temperature was around -5 degree at that time. So it was very difficult to cross the river, but one by one we crossed the river. After that we started our trek, but one of our friends felt unhealthy due to the cold. After resting for some time he felt good and we started our trek.

Me and one friend went a little bit early to catch the bus. After sometime the road was steep down, and when we reached near Chenab river, we saw our other 3 friends were 50 meters away.

We reached Chatru, and asked for the bus, somany one waited for the bus. I went back to the other friends to help them, but I could not find them. When I reached the place where I had last seen them, I found two bags.

I shouted at anybody there, then I saw two friends, but another friend was missing. Then I went to the opposite side of Chatru towards Kaja with one dog. The dog was with me from Chatru and after 3km I caught the friend and went back to Chatru.

When we reached Chatru we thought that the bus might be left, but due to landslides on the road the bus could not reach Chatru. We took a bath on the road side and finished our lunch and around 5pm the bus came. But it was fully packed, and the driver did not allow us.

After some time we saw another traveler's bus going to Manali, we requested them and told them everything. Then they discussed it between them and allowed us. Around 9:30 pm we reached Manali and at the same time we got a bus for Delhi.
